I could never get into Iceworld for one reason or another, but I loved Mission of Gravity and Needle to death.

Iceworld is one of my favorites, as well, and mostly for the same reasons you cited: telling the story from an alien point of view, and using that to look at the Earth as an "alien" environment. Come to think of it, it's been ten years since I re-read it, and I just finished the last book I was reading; I may go grab it right now. Thanks for the reminder.
