... perhaps best known for The Hunt for Red October, is dead at the age of 66.

I enjoyed the couple of Clancys I read, and I loved the Red October movie. He did know how to tell a story, and 66 is too soon in this day and age.

I wouldn't worry, like VC Andrews, he will continue to publish books for the next few decades.

I assume you are referring to titles like "Tom Clancy's Op Center: Hullablloo in that Place," where there is no evidence that Mr. Clancy ever saw the manuscript.

I did like the entire Jack Ryan series, and the prequel about "Mr. Clark."

That was my first thought, too. 66 is too young to die!

I haven't read any of his books, but it's still sad news to hear.

That is young these days. I gave up on his books after Cardinal of the Kremlin but I won't deny in his early books he could spin a good yarn.

I just read a news story about that and was surprised.

I loved the Hunt for Red October movie, too.

Wow. That is definitely too soon. Red October was one of the handful of favorite movies we had as a family.

Sad news. I stopped reading his books years ago, but his Jack Ryan series will always have a special place in my heart. I may have to go find copies and do a rereading in his memory.

Damn, that is a shame.

I've only read a couple of his books, including the already mentioned Cardinal of the Kremlin, and quite enjoyed it, though it wasn't quite what I was looking for.

I think I've read Hunt for Red October as well, and it lead to the thoroughly enjoyable movie.

May he find his heart's desire, wherever his spirit may end up.

I will miss him. I enjoyed his books and his keen wit. One of the local SanFran talk show hosts had him on as a guest a -lot- and he was a delight. 'Hunt for Red October' is one of my favorite books that he wrote - and I loved the movie adaptation. [I also like that Clancy preferred Alec Baldwin as Ryan, since it agreed with my opinion.] 66 is way too young.
