Date: 2014-05-14 05:56 pm (UTC)One amusing bit was that the eruption occurred during Crown tourney. And everyone was offering the folks from Three Mountains (Portland) a place to stay because everyone *knew* Portland would get the huge ashfalls.
Notably folks from Yakima and the Tri-Cities were offering. And they were the ones who wound up dealing with feet of ash falling on their towns.
Portland? We got the occasion light dusting a few times, weeks later.
Of course, working in a clean room at a plant that had only been completed recently was great fun. We learned the hard way that some clean areas weren't properly sealed.
My shift got lucky. We noticed a little bit of fine ash just before the end of the shift one night. And when we came back the next night, the other two shifts had spent their entire shifts cleaning and sealing.
After that, we merely had to deal with "shoe scrubbers" at the building entrance for the next year or so.
