... I've gotten many nice notes thanking me for posting my rant, and telling me it needed to be said.

This saddens me beyond belief. Dozens if not HUNDREDS of other people have posted similar things, some of them FAR better written and detailed than I could ever hope to manage. This should be a DEAD subject. It should be one where everyone's already agreed that the whole thing was asinine, that the 'gaters are filth, and moved on.

The very fact that I haven't been getting "Jesus, Ryk, will everyone just DROP it already" as the major response... is the most infuriating, saddening, and tragic proof that this is a REAL problem, and one that isn't CLOSE to being dealt with by our society, and so you WILL keep hearing about it until someone finds a way to make it clear to even the most reactionary SOB that this behavior IS NOT ACCEPTABLE in a civilized society.

I think part of it is because there haven't been much pushback from within the people who identify as gamers. There have been plenty of analysis, but very little of creating an alternative identity.

I also think it's a pity that Intel's role in this hasn't been called out more.

Hey, within the last *week* I've seen two female online friends hesitate to say something about it because they *are* much more likely to be attacked.

So it's been said before, but it still deserves to be said, and it deserves to keep being said until it's over with.

I hesitated mainly because it's not just me. If I were single and on my own, I'd have posted it earlier, and posted multiple versions, and sought out the worst bastards and shoved it in their faces.

*hugs* i'm just getting up on gamergate - not my real community, there - but it helps to see sane people saying sane stuff in the midst of this thing.

it really helps because way back when, when i was trying to enlighten the world about rape culture and whatnot, i really felt like i was trying to shout the news into a windstorm while waves were trying to pull me off the rocks to drown me in the sea. it's nice to 'hear' backup, you know?
