... according to a FB post on his list, Terry Pratchett has just passed on. I was not able to get into his writing, but I know many who were, and he seemed a charming and witty gentleman the one time I met him at Worldcon Boston some years ago. The world is once more diminished by passing of one of our own.

I concur. I'll miss him, if only by proxy. I tried some of his Discworld books because so many people I knew LOVED his stuff. Some of it was mildly interesting, but most of just seemed...pointless and uninteresting to me--and yet, so often I've heard or read a really funny or really profound (or both funny and profound) statement...and it was a quote from Pratchett. Tastes vary.

But as I said, I'll miss his influence on the world.

I wasn't a big fan (I thought it was overly contrived), but he sounded like a really interesting person. Very sad. :(

I guess I'm the token huge fan of Sir Terry. Not every book, but most of the Diskworld. And I was a JCL (Johny-come-lately) to Pratchett fandom - I'd heard that he was "the British Piers Anthony," and I stopped reading the Xanth series many years ago.

I admit to loving puns, but the Xanth ones were so forced and contrived. Terry's puns flow from the work. I'll seriously miss his writing.
