I wonder how many other high tech cities under a lake were going around at this time. Tarzan visited one, and later so did a party in Xanth. All with similar events too.

Well, the Tarzan example was 18 years after Glinda, and of course Xanth was decades after that. I'm not sure anyone did it before Baum.
