If the URL ends in /feed you can change back to the old way by changing it to /friends.

Not only is it *stupid* (the friends page layout is customizable too), but it worries me that they may (once again) try to *force* us to use the "better" setup.

You have to be logged in. You also may have to cross your fingers just right.

I've had it change back to feed. But that's *usually* because I'm not logged in.

A few times it's been my browser being "helpful".

Odds are that once again they are trying to make LJ look and act like one of the other social media sites, not realizing that being *different* helps you stand out. Looking the same gets you buried.

The odds are that they've noticed that the bulk of their users access from mobiles, so they'd like to discontinue the browser format and/or get the browser users spied on by whatever user-watching Javascript they've put into the mobile format.
