I do not like this new layout. Why did you have to f**k around with something that worked?

Because anything that works needs enhancements.

Seconding that suspicion re: the motive.

it seems like every time I log on, they've changed something. it's becoming an adventure just to see if you can make an entry.

If the URL ends in /feed you can change back to the old way by changing it to /friends.

Yeah, but now they have this:

You're using the old version of the Friends page. Try the new one, now you can customize it.

at the top of the friends page.

Not only is it *stupid* (the friends page layout is customizable too), but it worries me that they may (once again) try to *force* us to use the "better" setup.

You have to be logged in. You also may have to cross your fingers just right.

I've had it change back to feed. But that's *usually* because I'm not logged in.

A few times it's been my browser being "helpful".

Better is the enemy of good enough"

Odds are that once again they are trying to make LJ look and act like one of the other social media sites, not realizing that being *different* helps you stand out. Looking the same gets you buried.

Yes I'm not a fan of their forced "mobile" format.

Agreed. If the mobile format shows up on my cellphone, all well and good. On my desktop or laptop computer? No thanks.

The odds are that they've noticed that the bulk of their users access from mobiles, so they'd like to discontinue the browser format and/or get the browser users spied on by whatever user-watching Javascript they've put into the mobile format.

It's so someone can mark down as an accomplishment "managed revamp of livejournal appearance to a more dynamic contemporary style."

Our inconvenience has helped our someone's resume.

And in six months the same accomplishment can be added to someone else's resume.

I don't know why *any* site doesn't leave the option of using old looks.

Because if it ain't broken, 'fix' it until it is.

Tumblr and LiveJournal both clearly live by this maxim.

Because they can and because change gives the appearance of progress when there really isn't any (see the fake quote attributed to Petronius the Arbiter).
