I know all too well that bit with having trouble placing names and faces together. Ditto for needing to meet folks in other contexts to help things "set"

In fact there was someone I kept running into at Orycon for years.

There was someone I kept running into at kink events for years.

One day something was said and I suddenly realized that these were one and the same person!

Usually I'm not quite THAT bad -- I will recognize the face/voice combination in most contexts -- but cementing a NAME onto that, now, that's hard.
