Amusements Musings -- NWN
Apr. 29th, 2006 04:51 pmDuring Hell Week I played a fair amount of Neverwinter Nights. I also recently acquired Hordes of the Underdark and I just installed it. I have a few questions to the NWN players I know are out there on my Flist.
1) In my current "Shadows of Undrentide" game, my character has a "Spellstaff" which had the capability to cast several defensive spells simultaneously on my character, all at once. Now, however, (after reinstalling NWN, SoU, and HotU) when I activate the staff's special power, it doesn't buff me up; it appears to set off a Cloudkill (a shifting green cloud around me). A couple of other devices don't appear to be working right either. Any ideas on how to fix it?
2) What are some of the good freebie modules out there? I like heroic focused adventures (i.e., I'm not really interested in playing baddies) and I wouldn't mind romantic possibilities (not, let me note, ecchi possibilities)
3)How do I install/use them on my Mac? They appear to come in several different file formats including .exe, which I know is useless on a Mac, yet I was under the impression that NWN adventures should be usable on all NWN capable platforms.
Thanks!

Date: 2006-04-29 11:58 pm (UTC)There was one called the Nether Scrolls that was pretty good.
And I used some of the character building editor ones to experiment with.
And I enjoyed the sillyness of Sex and the Single Adventuress, but I don't think it would be your cup of tea. :)

Date: 2006-04-30 01:27 am (UTC)Make a backup copy of your save game folder. Then try loading earlier saves. If that does not work then try deleting NWN and reinstalling NWN and SoU but not HotU. Then try loading the SoU saves. If that works then you have two choices: finish the SoU game without HotU installed (you won't need it) or install HotU and start over. If that does not work then I think you're stuck starting over. It might be possible to hack the save file manually but I do not recommend that.
2. Good grief. There are tonnes. Check out the award winners at the NWN Vault. Most of the modules at the Vault are crap (insert Sturgeon's Revelation here) but there are some real gems.
3. If the EXE files are actually self-extracting ZIP or RAR files then you should be able to unpack them with Stuffit Expander. Once you have the files unpacked from the archive just put the files where they belong, hak files in the hak folder, mod files in the modules folder, etc. The data files are 100% cross-platform.
BTW, Stefan Gagne is also known as

Date: 2006-05-01 01:32 am (UTC)The Blackguard Trillogy, interesting because of the focus on playing an evil character. Most modules don't really care what alignment you play.
Kunoichi, for similar reasons. The series was, unfortunately, never finished.
Penultima and Penultima ReRolled, two complete series from Twoflower (mentioned above). 2F's modules are characterized by good writing first and foremost.
The HeX Coda, also from Twoflower. HX2 is currently in (slow) development.
There are also many conversions of the old SSI D&D games. Some of the best of these include Curse of the Azure Bonds, Eye of the Beholder, and Pool of Radiance.
Finally, Sex and the Single Adventuress, a tongue-in-cheek parody for the female characters stuck with that dip Gend in the NWN campaign.
