 Demons of the Past, a space opera trilogy set in the same universe as Jason Wood and the Balanced Sword, will be published early next year by Double Dragon Publishing!

They will also be publishing the first volume of Fall of Veils, an urban fantasy that somehow crosses Supernatural, Cheers (at a coffee bar), and Being Human, by Kathleen and me (mostly her to start, I write more as the series goes on)!

Will Double Dragon be handling any potential audio versions of the books or will you be selling those rights separately?

I'll have to check the contract but my recollection is that I'm retaining all other rights, so that'd be my job unless DD decides they'd like to take a shot at it.

If you retained those rights then they are yours to sell as you please. I'm pretty sure that Audible.com buys rights directly from authors. I was reading something about this recently, I'll see if I can dig it up.

Huh. From my point of view the author's whining and whining and saying very little. Yes, indeed, they get 50%. That's the way rights work. If you want to break your relationship with a publisher that does tons of work for you over the fact that they want a cut of the other lucrative rights related to it, well, fine for you, but jesus, man, I'll take your contract any day if it's going to net me six frickin' figures.

If you're an independent, YOU have to negotiate the audiobook contract. Now, in the case of the article writer, yes, they probably CAN get a good audiobook contract on their own. Someone like me? I really dunno; someone has to invest the time and effort to produce the audiobook, and that means that whoever wants to do my audiobooks has to be willing to invest the money, because I can't do it.
