I have removed the PS3 from my Wish List on Amazon and replaced it with the Nintendo Wii. The controller does, indeed, look cool, and looks to be the first step on the road towards Really Cool Games that Don't Have To Make You A Couch Potato. Combine that with the $250 price tag AND backwards compatibility with the OTHER Nintendo systems, and I have a clear winner.

did the video help you decide?

My first thought was also how much more active you can be w/the ninetendo. And, I give them personal bonus points for taking a risk and innovating differently than the rest.

I could have done w/out those adds too. I guess marketing departments can't help themselves.

Some people commment that the ninetendo is less powerful than the others. I see it similar to buying a video card. You get diminishing returns the more you spend.

Compare a $100 video card today to one five years ago. It will knock the socks off of the older cards. Granted it is not as powerful as new $300 card, but it is still a modern card, with modern features.

GameCube compatability is pretty simple since Wii (it's just "Wii", not "Nintendo Wii") is a faster, beefier GameCube. All existing GameCube games should Just Work, but you'll need to get a GameCube controller and memory card for them. "Skies of Arcadia" should be at the very top of your list. Get it. Get it used if you must, but get it. Skies was made by the same Sega group that made the original Phantasy Star games.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion looks to be a cool game.

For the record? I'll probably attempt to get a Wii in a day or three. I already have Skies and I intend to get Trauma Center 2nd so I'm putting my limited money where my fingers are. :)

Cartrige games (NES, SNES, N64, and Game Boy line) compatability is through the Virtual Console emulator. Currently there is no way to use existing Nintendo ROM carts with Wii though there may be a Game Boy adapter of some sort in the future.

I tried to play "Skies of Arcadia" on the Dreamcast; and while I very much liked a lot of things about the game the frequency of random encounters was way too high. IMO, anyway. I never did finish it.

The GC version has a much, much, MUCH lower encounter rate.

If I was going to get a console , it would be the Nintendo Wee :P , I figure go with a established name in the business , and Nintendo makes pretty good games , although it would be hard to play Video Games when you are hooked on WoW , like I am :)
