CSI: Disney, or Things that Mix Oddly...

I think I've been watching too much CSI. For the umpteenth time little Victoria was watching "Finding Nemo" and it suddenly occurred to me that Clair's death was too neat and easy.

Marlin got this big fancy house for them, but it's clear that even it wasn't going to be large enough for all those kids when the eggs hatched. Marlin would have had to get a whole lot more territory -- in an area, as Clair and Marlin noted, that's in high demand. Did Marlin realize what he was getting into? Did he panic when he understood the depth of his current commitments?

I wonder what tracing Marlin's associations back would show. Did he have an insurance policy on Clair? Was the appearance of the barracuda an accident, or a clever setup? Did he have some fishy connections off-reef to organized crime schools, who might know where you could find a hit-fish?

Toy Story Mom seems to be fine, though it appears she's a single mom -- sort of the inversion of the usual.

The Incredibles, Mom kicked ass.

I dunno though if there's any examples in the REGULAR Disney stuff... Oh, yeah, 101 Dalmatians. The kids go through more hell than the parents, actually.

I once heard that there are exactly two Disney (animated?) movies where there's two parents at the beginning and the end. I think they were Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

Disney's Sleeping Beauty manages to keep two sets of parents alive and well. They're not really important to the story, but they're still breathing!

I dunno, 'Wasp. Do you think the introduction to a movie directed at least party at kids is really the place to wander off for a few scenes riffing on high-r reproductive strategies? And if high-r organisms attained sentience, how their attitudes would differ from our own? And so on...

... if they're going to SHOW that they're high-R, rather than just showing a few eggs and thus low-r, then it's incumbent on them to explain it all.

I have a couple high-r races in my projected works which will have some rather odd attitudes due to that.
