I'll of course be going to Genericon this year as usual (Genericon: RPI, Troy, NY, January 28-30). I don't know if I'll be an official guest, though, as I wrote to their guest person and haven't heard back yet. I'm sure I'll be able to do SOMETHING though, it's a nice little convention and one of the friendliest I've been at anywhere. If anyone else out there is going to Genericon, look around for me. I'll be there probably signing copies of Mountain Magic if nothing else. :)

I am hesitant to go to any convention in the winter that requires going outdoors. Too often the weather is miserable.

Why would one go... OUTDOORS? (Unless they've changed things at RPI, the entire convention is indoors and contiguous (i.e., you can get to any part of it without HAVING to go outdoors, or at least only dash across a 50-foot gap between two sides of a building). Yes, you must be OUTDOORS in order to GET there, but that's true of anything you do in the winter unless you just stay home.)

For me, of course, it's a no-brainer to go, since it's 5 minutes from my house.

The conventions I have gone to are at hotels, so there is no need to leave the building until it is over. I can leave all my stuff in my room, and retreat to it to rest, or drop off purchases. I don't need my coat or boots.

But with typical January weather I may well need my coat and boots, which means extra stuff to lug around. I haven't completely ruled Genericon out, but it would have to be dry weather. And there's no way to know whether we'll have THAT till the last minute.

That would be my main motivation for going. But then I could just make a special trip up to see you without a convention, too. :)

True, but given my usual schedule I might not be able to devote two, three days to the visit.

It appears I will be MC'ing the Cosplay. I wonder if I should appear in costume, or confuse people by dressing up.

Just wanted to say, it was a real pleasure meeting you at Genericon, thank you for taking so much time to tell me about your stories, and guess what: I was able to find a copy of Digital Knight on barnesandnoble.com, so hopefully by the time I finish Mountain Magic it'll be here. I'm really looking forward to reading it. :-)
