Date: 2014-10-28 04:01 am (UTC)The women leaving their homes is pretty much *necessary*. Among other things, if they don't and something happens, they *will* be blamed for not having done so.
So it's a lose-lose situation.
This is a big part of rape culture. Victim blaming.
And I have to note that most men won't *ever* get the female viewpoint on this. I didn't until the day *I* was the one afraid I was going to get raped or worse if I encountered the wrong guys.
It's just not something "normal" males have experience with. But women, gays and trans folk become all too well aware of it. For the gay and trans folk, *maybe* they learn from it happening to others.
Or maybe they make a poor decision and wind up someplace where they suddenly realize that they are vulnerable. If they lucky, they just get a good scare and know bone-deep that they can be a victim.
If they are unlucky they become a victim.
Believe me, bullying is a *pale* shadow of this...

Date: 2014-10-28 10:49 am (UTC)I'm no fighter, but my feeling would be that running just makes me more vulnerable. In this day and age you can't actually hide from such assholes for long, so if they're willing to actually DO anything, which makes more sense? Get caught in some hotel room, or in a friend's house (causing your friends to be endangered as well, something I would consider an immoral choice unless you had a damn good reason to believe your friends could handle danger vastly better), or in your house that you know better than any other place on Earth and could presumably defend better than some other random location?
Yeah, making that choice might end poorly, but I think the other choice -- today, with all the tools available to track people, and the fact that the enemy is composed of people who actually can and will use such tools -- has about as much chance to end poorly, too. If you'll be victim-blamed either way, hell, choose the one that gives you a better chance.

Date: 2014-10-29 07:35 am (UTC)I hate the fact that in some of these "communities" (like gaming), there are people who want to make it an exclusive little club, instead of welcoming others who want to participate (or do already participate).

Date: 2014-10-29 11:32 am (UTC)and the problem grows
just this kind of scum got hold of power in germany in the 1930´s and 40`s
wanting power over others, victimizing the weak and getting a kick out of the pain, fear and death of others
there will always be sick people
if decent people don´t fight them they will win
so we all have to step up and stop them or in the end we all will suffer
