It's on the spine. But not on the dust jacket. You'll only see it if you take the dust jacket off; the spine copy for the dust jacket is correct. I suspect that means it's going to be automagically corrected in paperback, since paperbacks usually have the dust jacket AS their cover.
And you can apply as a copy editor, but they tend to outsource, as I remember, and then they send it to the authors to check.
Having done copy editing on my stuff AND on others, I also don't believe there's any book out there that actually has NO misspellings, unless it's a kid's book. Any large novel is too large to allow a small number of people to reach certainty of perfection.
